DR. PATRICK O'BRIEN, MD

Dr. Patrick O’Brien is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and is the President of Carolina Rehabilitation and Surgical Associates. He also serves as Medical Director for Wake Med Rehab and Aldridge Rehab Center, Sunnybrook Rehabilitation Center, Rocky Mount Rehabilitation, Wellington Rehabilitation, Pruitt Health of Raleigh, Pruitt Health of Durham, PruittHealth Carolina Point, Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center, and Cary Health & Rehabilitation. He graduated cum laude from Hamilton College, in New York, with a degree in chemistry and economics. He earned his medical degree at the New York Medical College in 1981. In addition to inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, Dr. O’Brien specializes in the treatment of spasticity, secondary to brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. He performs Botox® injections for spasticity, manages intrathecal baclofen pumps for spasticity, and is also certified in the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the treatment of non-healing wounds, at WakeMed.





DR. MICHAEL GWINN, MD

Dr. Gwinn is board-certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Electromyography. He is a partner at Carolina Rehabilitation and Surgical Associates, and also serves as Medical Director for First Health Moore Regional’s Rehabilitation Hospital. He graduated cum laude from Ohio State University with a degree in Biochemistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Gwinn began earning his medical degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Ohio State University Hospitals in 1990.

In addition to inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, Dr. Gwinn also specializes in both, Botox® for migraines, and Botox® for spasticity, as well as Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) testing.








DR. WING NG, MD.

Dr. Wing Ng is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has worked in Raleigh with Carolina Rehabilitation and Surgical Associates since 2005. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor inPM&R residency programs at Stony Brook University and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in New York. He currently is a partner at Carolina Rehabilitation & Surgical Associates and serves as Medical Director for the Neuro Care Program at WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston, with a degree in Biology and Chemistry, and received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, in 1995. Dr. Ng completed a fellowship in Brain Injury Rehabilitation in 2000. In 2014, he was one of the first, approximately 300, physicians in the United States to receive subspecialty certification inBrain Injury Medicine from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In directing WakeMed’s Neuro Care Program, Dr. Ng and his team provide medical care to patients with low-level traumatic brain injuries and other severely disabling neurologic conditions, in an effort to optimize their neurologic recovery. Dr. Ng has extensive experience in spasticity management using Botox injections and intrathecal baclofen pumps. He is also certified in the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the treatment of non-healing wounds, at WakeMed.


DR. JAIRON DOWNS, MD

Dr. Jairon Downs is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He serves as Medical Director for Duke Rehabilitation Institute and the Center for Rehabilitation at Mariah Parham Health.  He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology from Southern Illinois University, and received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School in 2011. Dr. Downs completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation with UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine. Dr. Downs specializes in the treatment of spasticity, secondary to brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis.  He performs Botox® injections for both spasticity and migraines. He is also certified in the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the treatment of non-healing wounds, at WakeMed.




DR. H. WEST LAWSON, MD

Dr. West Lawson is board certified in Family Medicine. He is a partner with Carolina Rehabilitation and Surgical Associates, and specializes in inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing care.
Dr. Lawson graduated magna cum laude, from Duke University, with a degree in Religion and Zoology. He received his medical degree from The Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, and went on to complete his residency in Family Medicine, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, in 1990. Dr. Lawson complete a Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine Fellowship, with UNC, in 2015.





DR. TODD ROWLAND, MD.


Dr. Todd Rowland is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He specializes in inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, and is also certified in the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for the treatment of non-healing wounds, at WakeMed hospital. Dr. Rowland graduated summa cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree, from Wabash College, and later obtained his Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Ohio State University, in 1993.
